The super group, Depeche Mode, with their seducing voices, groovy sound and alluring stage presence, visits Barolo and gives a show extraordinaire. Desderi Travel Club invites you to this performance as a dinner concert with unique seating.
Day 1, Thursday, June 28
A coach is waiting exclusively for you at Milano’s Malpensa Airport at 14.00. The drive to Cascina Desderi takes approximately an hour and a half. Upon arrival, a welcome snack with wine is served underneath the gazebo. Check into the elegant rooms of Cascina Desderi and Villa Desderi. Relax in the garden or by the pool before dinner is served – a typical Italian cena with appetizers, starters, pasta and “secondo” – the main course, to be followed by dolce. The wines of Desderi are accompanying the various dishes.
Day 2, Friday, June 29
After a hearty vintner’s breakfast, get ready for a tour of the campagna – an excursion in the wine district surrounding Asti. The tour takes us along the Tanaro River, across the Monferrato hills to Calamandrana. Here we pay a visit to the farm La Giribaldina where Cascina Desderi is producing its wines. A taste of wine from tanks and barrels can be sampled before the tour continues on winding roads between Santo Stefano Belbo towards Barbaresco. We make a short stop in Alba before continuing to La Morra – the Barolo village with the highest altitude. Here we enjoy an unforgettable luncheon at Ristorante Bovio with sweeping vistas of Barolo and the Tanaro Valley. Seven courses, with wine included. We are back at Desderi around 17.00. After some hours of relaxation, prepare yourself for a unique dining experience! Just minutes from Cascina Desderi the ristorante Alla Piazza offers a bountiful buffet with Italian, Asian and Continental cuisine – of course with the wines of Desderi included.
Day 3, Saturday, June 30
Today we head towards Torino! Just after breakfast we take off in our comfortable coach – driving through Asti from east to west. On winding country roads we enter the long and flat plain of Po, surrounded by rolling hills and quaint villages. When we reach the last hill, then we discover Torino at the foot of the colina. The elegant capital of Savoy, currently the capital of Piedmonte and for a while also the capital of Italy – the entire Italian nation. Here the Savoy kings had their palaces in and around the city, and the court served their kings and queens in this very city for hundreds of years.
We start our tour at Superga, a summit towering above the city with sweeping vistas in all directions. On the very top the royal chapel and the Savoy Tombs are located. Here numerous of the Savoy kings and queens have been put to rest. After refreshments in the Chapel Bar (!), we descend to the city center, cross the river Po and get off near the elegant main street, at Via Roma. From here there is a short walk to most of the city’s sights; Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Madama, the Italian Film Museum and the Egyptian Museum – and maybe most important of all; Torino Cathedral with the shroud. The Juventus arena is just outside the city center to the west, while the Auto Museum is at the east side. We enjoy lunch at the Ristorante Arcadia – appropriately located in one of the cities elegant arcades. There will be time for shopping and exploring on Via Roma, before returning via the Autostrada to Cascina Desderi. Arrival around 18.00.
No dinner is included this evening – as we have had yet another day with a heavy lunch. Why not test out the local ristorante Bandini this evening?
Day 4, Sunday, July 1
A day of relaxation! After a leisurely breakfast, spend the Sunday at the farm! This is in the middle of summer and the temperatures are hot and comfortable so just relax on the terraces and take a dip in the pool. Stroll around the country roads surrounding the vineyard or just enjoy the garden among vines and flowers. This evening, Cascina Desderi invites you to a special dinner – as a wine maker’s dinner has been planned for you. This will be a memorable dining event, with memorable wines as the chef will match each dish with a Desderi wine, and to the main dish he will even find a vintage Barbera from the private cantina. A memorable dinner, but tomorrow evening will be an affair to remember…
Day 5, Monday, July 2
After a typical farmer’s breakfast, the first part of the day is yours to relax in the garden among vines and flowers. Take a dip in the pool or stroll around on the country roads surrounding the vineyard. In the early afternoon, get ready for the Depeche Mode concert – combined with a tour and an unforgettable vintner’s dinner! The first stop is in the old town of Asti with its impressive cathedral – a Gothic masterpiece. The road takes us through rustic villages and rural countryside to the hilltop village of Govone and its splendid Savoia Palace. Across the valley we visit the wine village of Barbaresco, famous for its Nebbiolo wines. The end of the journey is the village of Barolo. Here we visit the antique cantina of Marchesi di Barolo, before being invited into the sanctuary of the family’s private cellar. Depending on your age, you most probably will find a bottle from the year you were born – your own vintage at a vintage rate… The visit is followed by a wine maker’s dinner extraordinaire in the dining room of the Marchesi di Barolo – a typical Piomentese dinner prepared with the slowfood philosophy, matching wines from the Marchesi collection. After dinner, we proceed to the Terrace of Marchesi di Barolo – a garden overlooking Piazza Colbert where Depeche Mode will give their performance – an outdoor stage surrounded by vines and the lush rounded hills of Barolo. Knowing this band, Depeche Mode ill give everything during the hours of his show. On the way back to Cascina Desderi through the velvet night, we listen to the seducing music of the three original founders; Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher.
Day 6, Tuesday, July 3
After a late breakfast, let today be a Carpe Diem Day! The coach back to Malpensa is scheduled to depart at 10.00. If you prefer to stay on and spend more days at Desderi, you are welcome to.
