A long weekend where you discover Piemonte on two wheels: Five days at Cascina Desderi, transfers, two days of biking with a professional guide, one day cycling on your own, a guided tour in the wine country, numerous lunches and dinners – on this tour you will visit the highlights of the region.
Day 1, Thursday
Our coach will meet the group at Malpensa airport, the one most frequently used when staying in Asti. The transfer takes approximately an hour and a half. Check into Cascina Desderi – possibly also Villa Desderi, depending on the size of the group. Around seven, a welcome dinner is served under the portico overlooking the vines.
Day 2, Friday
After a delicious Italian breakfast, the first of the two guided bike tours is about to begin. A van will transport the bicycles to Cascina Desderi and you will be given your bike for the weekend. The active part of the day starts as you roll downhill from the collina and the guide introduces you to the local area. The first part is through the Tanaro Valley and along the river that runs through it. We enjoy a light lunch at Cascina Desderi – including as much wine you dare to drink as the tour continues on the wine route through the villages north of the farm. Dinner is on your own this evening; mount your bike and roll down the hill to the village nearby for some pasta and salad. The return back to Cascina Desderi is uphill and takes at the most 15 minutes.
Breakfast & Lunch
Day 3, Saturday
After a long and comfortable breakfast under the portico, mount the bike and get ready for a new and exciting day – somewhat more challenging as the roads are steeper and the tour longer. The guide will take you through Asti, on local roads to Govone and on to Barbaresco. Here we take a short break, why not enjoy lunch at the Ristorante Anticha Torre? Then, roll downhill (mostly) to Alba. The return to Asti and Cascina Desderi is through local roads through Valle Tanaro. This evening, a winemaker’s dinner will be served at Cascina Desderi – numerous courses are matched with the wines of the farm.
Breakfast & Dinner
Day 4, Sunday
This morning you can relax and enjoy the breakfast as there are no plans until the evening… so today; do nothing – far niente! Enjoy the garden, the pool and the terraces. The bicycle is, however, yours through the afternoon. You are free to explore the surroundings on your own – without a guide today. Around four o’clock we take off in our coach – the first stop is at the cathedral Santa Maria Assunta in the old town of Asti. We continue into the realm of the Savoias; to the hilltop village of Govone and pay a visit to a former Royal Palace – once the property of the Savoia family. From here we cross over to Treiso – the Barbaresco village with the highest altitude. Then we proceed through the famous Barolo vineyards and end up in La Morra and the famous ristorante Bovio. Here we enjoy a farewell dinner – seven courses with starters, appetizers, pasta and secondo – the main course, and finally dolce; dessert. Three kinds of wine are matching the courses. Enjoy! We return to Cascina Desderi, while listening to opera arias on the way back.
